Don't Buy Website Traffic: Write Articles

The general rule with web sites is, if you build it, they WON'T come, at least not in any significant numbers. You need to get the word out. You need links to your web site around the web both to bring people directly and to convince the search engines that your site is important. And you don't want just anybody. You want quality traffic. You want to bring people who want what you are offering. How much will it cost you to bring quality web site traffic?

It doesn't need to cost you anything to bring quality web site traffic. One of the best ways is to write ezine articles (like the one you are reading) and let people use them without charge in their own blogs and ezines. The articles target the people you want to come visit, they don't cost you anything but your time, and they spread themselves over the web.

You can write an article, 400-1000 words in length, and place it in an article directory on the web. Anyone is permitted use your article for free as long as they keep your resource box intact. Your resource box is the last paragraph in your article. It is the only place where you can include links to your websites. Bloggers and ezine editors are desperately in need of content, so good, useful articles will spread widely.

Why would you want to give away an article free? There are three main reasons: the first is that being the author of articles that appear widely around the web will enhance your status as an expert on the topic you're writing about.

The second reason is that it can increase the traffic to your web sites, which will increase your sales and your profits. The most direct way is through referral traffic. People reading the article can click on the links and come to your website. More subtlety but more importantly, the presence of links to your site from all around the web will increase the page rank of your site in the view of Google and the other search engines: if all these other sites are pointing to yours, it must mean that yours is important.

The third reason is that the ezine articles provide you with content: you can use the ezine article in your own ezine or in your own blog. You can use the content in future books, seminars, and speeches. You can include the articles in libraries of content for your members-only website.

How often should you write ezine articles? Frequently and forever -- twice a week if you can.

How do you write the articles? If you have created an online mini-course, each of the lessons could itself be the core of an ezine article. You can also use formulas: You can write a tip sheet. You can write questions and answers. You can review products and services. You can do a comparison of two things feature by feature and benefit by benefit. You can interview somebody. The most important thing, though, is not to try to use the article to sell your services, but rather just to provide information. People do not want to read sales pitches, and ezine editors do not include them, unless of course you're buying advertising. Your articles will not spread around the web unless they provide valuable information for the readers.

For each article, you need a title, a body, a plain text resource box, an HTML resource box, a category that the article fits into, a list of keywords, and a brief description of what the article contains.

You don't have to buy website traffic. You can bring quality web site traffic for free by writing ezine articles and posting them in article directories. Not only are ezine articles an important way to bring customers to your web site , but they can provide you with the content you need for further products. Be sure to use this valuable tool.
